Our Mission

Raising Black Boys to Become Great Men (RBB) is a dynamic network of professionals dedicated to empowering black male youth ages 6-21. We are passionate about teaching black boys valuable trades, essential skills, and the mindset of entrepreneurship. With a focus on fostering a positive self-image with pride in their heritage, culture and community, RBB goes beyond traditional education. We recognize the importance of trusted partnerships with parents, caregivers and families of black male youth is essential to our objectives. In collaboration with parents we aim to equip these young developing men with the tools necessary to succeed in various aspects of life. By instilling a strong foundation of knowledge and self-confidence, RBB hopes to address the unique challenges faced by black male youth and create a supportive environment where they can flourish. Through a range of services including mentorship, guidance, tutoring, workshops, trainings, community events, community service and other opportunities, our goal is to break down barriers and create multiple pathway's to success for young black males in the community. Together we are shaping a generation of young men who are confident, skilled, and ready to make a positive impact in society.

Workshops

Catch & Cook Workshop

A one of a kind fishing workshop set August 17, 2024 that teaches life long skills!

RBB has joined forces with the multitalented Raymond Adams from Oakland. Beyond being a teacher, Mr. Adams is a youth advocate, fitness enthusiast, and skilled fisherman. Together, we're organizing a dynamic workshop where Mr. Adams will guide young black males and their families through an interactive session covering fishing and crabbing techniques, water safety, cooking fresh catches, entrepreneurship, life lessons, and self-care tips.

Join us at the beautiful Torpedo Wharf in San Francisco. This event is more than just learning practical skills— it's also about enriching family ties, cultural pride, and community spirit. Participants will also enjoy a communal meal made from their fresh catches. This workshop isn't your ordinary gathering; it's a blend of empowerment and camaraderie! Cooking for the Soul

A parent/child workshop that keeps Black culinary traditions alive!

Raising Black Boys to Become Great Men is excited to invite black male youth of the San Francisco Bay Area to join us as we learn to cook. We are hosting a kick-off to a dynamic workshop series dedicated to preserving black culinary techniques & traditions. Our workshops allow black boys ages 6 - 21and their parents/caregivers to hone their cooking abilities, gain insight into nutrition, culinary culture, food safety, and develop lifelong skills.

Our experienced chefs will guide participants through diverse cuisines and cooking methods while providing historical knowledge of each dish. We are confident that this workshop will inspire a passion for cooking and equip attendees with valuable life skills and family bonding that will serve them well in the future.

BBQ PitMaster Workshop

Oakland's first PitMaster workshop for Black male youth and their parents/caregivers.

Brought to you by Raising Black Boys to Become Great Men (RBB) in partnership with Stacks Pits & Smokers, and Greens, Wings & Healthier Things (GWHT) soul food catering. We had an amazing time on June 29, 2004 at Arroyo Viejo Recreation Center in Oakland, California. All participants made a delicious BBQ meal consisting of tri-tip, hamburgers, hotdogs and links, and chicken & vegetable kabobs. Scrumptious homemade catering provided by GWHT included exotic fruit, baked beans, macaroni & cheese, potato salad, and smoked corn. A good time was had y'all! Participants had the opportunity to test and obtain their Food Handlers Permit good for 3 years on spot free of charge.

RBB collaborates with experts of their field to introduce profitable skills and entrepreneurship to black male youth and a pathway to successful careers.
